Background

Powerplants has recently completed an innovative greenhouse installation in Vietnam, collaborating with Rijk Zwaan Vietnam LLC to support the country’s growing agricultural sector. Located in the Lam Dong province near Da Lat, this region is renowned as the “Food Bowl for Asia,” featuring over 10,000 hectares of greenhouse production at an altitude of 1500 meters above sea level. The area’s cooler temperatures and lower humidity make it ideal for growing food crops and flowers using protected cropping and modern systems.

Challenges

• Expanding greenhouse capacity while ensuring sustainability.
• Managing local climatic conditions with high humidity and variable temperatures.
• Increasing efficiency in water and nutrient usage.

Solutions Implemented

2023: Advanced Greenhouse Automation System

• Integration of a Priva system tailored to control a Richel greenhouse.
• Optimized climate control, irrigation, and nutrient delivery to address local challenges.
• Custom cooling and shading solutions to enhance crop quality.

Collaboration with Local Growers

• Engaged with local greenhouse growers to share insights and provide advanced farming techniques.
• Supported the development of sustainable practices across the region.

Results Achieved

• Increased Productivity: Higher yield per square meter, meeting market demands.
• Resource Efficiency: Reduced water and nutrient waste by over 40%.
• Sustainable Farming: Enhanced crop quality while lowering environmental impact.

The Region’s Impact

The Lam Dong province has become a vital hub for agricultural exports to Asia. The integration of protected cropping and advanced systems, like the Priva-controlled Richel greenhouse, further cements its reputation as a leader in modern agriculture.
